At Shining Through, all of our staff members are highly trained in therapy and education to children with autism, supervised by an expert management team of accredited and recognized industry leaders, and managed in conjunction with post-secondary institutions and Board certified psychologists. Our aim is to provide the highest quality therapeutic interactions to our children, and as such, pursue an aggressive mandate to keep our team on the cutting edge of therapeutic and educational excellence.
SHIRI BARTMAN, M.A., BCBA – CLINICAL DIRECTOR
Shiri Bartman has a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. Shiri has been working with children diagnosed with autism for over 15 years in both the public and private sector providing direct service, clinical supervision, staff training, and consultation.
In her work with a wide range of children diagnosed with autism, Shiri has successfully utilized Applied Behaviour Analysis as well as the analysis of Verbal Behaviour in the programs she has designed.
She has been on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis as the Secretary for four years and is the chair of the annual ONTABA conference. Additionally, she sits on the Seneca College and George Brown College Program Advisory Committees for the Autism and Behavioural Sciences programs.
Shiri has taught several college courses in Behaviour Analysis and has run training workshops for both parents and professionals in Canada, France, and Switzerland. Shiri is currently pursuing her registration with the College of Psychologists as a Psychological Associate.
LETICIA TORO – SUPERVISING THERAPIST
Leticia Toro is a Supervising Therapist at the Shining Through Centre’s Woodbridge Campus. She has been part of the team since 2009 and has been Supervising Therapist since October 2011.
Leticia completed her BSc. Psychology at Trent University; has earned her post graduate certificate in Autism and Behavioural Science Technology from George Brown College, and has completed the course work for the BCaBA certification at the Florida Institute of Technology. In addition, she is currently completing a Masters of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education-University of Toronto.
She has been working with children and adolescents who were diagnosed with autism for over 8 years. Her experience includes the development and implementation of behaviour management plans and skill acquisition programs, in one-to-one intensive treatment as well as other educational settings, programming for transitioning learners into various educational environments, clinical supervision, and administration of developmental assessments. She has participated in conferences and workshops led by several Board Certified Professionals such as Dr. Brian Iwata, Dr. Richard Foxx, Dr. Patrick McGreevy, and Dr. Vince Carbone. She is currently a member of the Ontario Association for Behavioural Analysis (ONTABA).
KARLA KHOURY, BCaBA – SUPERVISING THERAPIST
Karla Khoury is the Supervising Therapist at Shining Through Centre’s Beecroft Campus. She has worked at the Shining Through Centre since July 2006 and has been a Supervising Therapist since May 2008. Karla graduated from George Brown College with an Advanced Diploma in Behavioural Science Technology and is a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA).
Karla has been working in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) for over 8 years. She has had experience with a variety of learners ranging from 2 to 40 years of age of different populations within different teaching settings. Karla’s experience includes but is not limited to the development and implementation of behavioural assessments and interventions, skill acquisition program development and review, staff training, and transition into school programs.
Karla has attended a wide variety of workshops and has received training from various board certified professionals. She is a member of the Association for Behavior Analysis International as well as The Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis (ONTABA) where she sat on the Board of Directors as the Newsletter Chair and Editor for 2 years.
NITRA RAJCOOMAR, B.A., PFC – SUPERVISING THERAPIST
Nitra Rajcoomar is a Supervising Therapist at the Shining Through Centre for Children with Autism. She has worked at Shining Through since June 2006 and has been a Supervising Therapist since May 2010.
Nitra has worked in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) for over 10 years. She has a wide range of experience related to the field of autism that include clinical supervision, implementation of intensive one-on-one treatment therapy combined with educational-based programs, and assessing children with multiple tools of assessments. She has attended a wide variety of workshops and has received training from various Board Certified professionals such as associates of Dr. Vince Carbone, BCBA.
Nitra completed her Diploma in Early Childhood Education and received her B.A. degree at York University in Sociology. She has recently completed her Pediatric Feeding Certification though the Los Altos Feeding Clinic and is now in the process of getting her Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst Certificate in the near future. She is also a member of the Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis and the Association for Behavior Analysis International.
TARA WEIR, RECE, BCaBA – SUPERVISING THERAPIST
Tara Weir is the Supervising Therapist at the Shining Through Centre’s Streetsville Campus. She has been part of the team since 2009 and has been a Supervising Therapist since 2012.
Tara’s background includes a diploma in Early Childhood Education from George Brown College, combined with a post-graduate certificate in Autism and Behavioural Science from Seneca College. She is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) as well as a Board Certified Assistant Behaviour Analyst (BCaBA). Tara works closely with the staff of the Streetsville Children’s Centre and Academy to provide an integrative experience for many of our learners. Tara has been working with children with a variety of developmental needs for over 10 years. She has experience developing and implementing skill acquisition programs and behaviour reduction plans. She has worked in a variety of educational environments including classroom and one-to-one settings. She also has experience providing clinical supervision, and administering developmental assessments.
Tara has attended workshops, and conferences with a variety of professionals in the field. She is currently a member of the Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis (ONTABA), and Association for Behaviour Analysis International (ABAI).
Eva Maria Lattanzio, M.ADS - Supervising Therapist
Eva has been a member of the Shining Through team since December 2011 and has been a Supervising Therapist since November 2014. She has completed her Bachelor of Science with Specialized Honors in Psychology from York University. She recently earned her Masters in Applied Disability Studies with specialization in Applied Behaviour Analysis from Brock University. Her next professional endeavor is to write the Behavior Analyst Certification Exam, which she hopes to complete by August 2016.
Eva has been working in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis with children and adolescents for over five years. She has experience delivering and supervising one-to-one intensive behaviour intervention (IBI) programs for individuals with a variety of learning needs. She has experience conducting behavioural assessments, developing individualized education plans, designing and implementing skill acquisition and behaviour reduction programs and staff training.
Eva has attended workshops and conferences led by professionals in the field such as Vincent Carbone, Gregory Hanley, Robert and Lynn Koegel, John Rapp and Peter Gerhardt.
Sarah Wright – Supervising Therapist/Instructor Therapist
Sarah has been part of the Shining Through team since 2012 and has been a Supervising Therapist since 2015.
Sarah has completed her Bachelors in Social Work degree through York University in 2009; she has earned her post-graduate certification in Autism and Behavioural Science Technology at George Brown College. Sarah is currently working towards earning her Masters in Disability Studies degree with a specialization in Applied Behavioural Analysis set to complete in 2017.
Sarah has been working in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis with children and adolescents for over four years. She has experience in conducting assessments, developing and implementing skill acquisition programs, providing staff training, and overseeing and assessing behaviour management protocols to name a few.
Sarah has attended many workshops and conferences led by professionals in the field such as Vincent Carbone, Gregory Hanley, Robert and Lynn Koegel and Peter Gerhardt.
Soraiya Bhagat – M.ADS., BCBA - Supervising Therapist
Soraiya Bhagat has over eight years' experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in various environments (home, centre-based, school, residential care and supportive housing, etc.) She has earned a Masters degree in Applied Disability Studies with a specialization in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) from Brock University, and is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) She also holds an Ontario Advanced Diploma in Behaviour Science Technology (BST) from George Brown College, and a BA (Hon) in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Soraiya recognizes that each individual is unique with his or her own strengths and challenges. She uses principles of ABA to help individuals with ASD acquire new skills such as communication, social skills, coping and self-regulation, and life skills. She understands the importance of customizing clinical programs based on their needs, abilities, and interests. Throughout her career, Soraiya has had a passion for teaching her clients and is thrilled to be combining her love of teaching with the application of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
Our instructors are well trained and knowledgeable in child development with either a university or college education in psychology or other related field. All instructors undergo intensive training in the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis and effective teaching strategies in the forms of both didactic and hands-on work and subsequent regular on-site training at Shining Through.
