Language for Living

Event Date: October 7-8, 2010

Language for Living is meant to be used with all ages, and is especially useful with teenagers and adults with very limited communication and language skills, especially those with whom communication and language are no longer expected.

Participants can Earn 14 CEU credits toward their BACB certification.

Colloquium Objectives:

At the conclusion of the workshop, the participant will be able to do the following:

conduct an assessment using Language for Living
select an appropriate communication response form for three sample students
be able to write individualized education program goals based on an assessment using Language for Living
be able to describe teaching procedures appropriate for specific skills.

11th Annual Fundraising Gala Dinner

Shining Through Centre’s 11th Annual Fundraising Gala to raise money for educating children with Autism was an enormous success. Over 1,100 family, friends and colleagues enjoyed a heartwarming evening, featuring entertainment by Lady Luck Productions and Ash Circle Fire Troupe.

St. Louis Bar and Grill supports Shining Through

St. Louis Bar and Grill has been a long-time supporter of Shining Through Centre's operations and programs, both through generous financial donations and the efforts of St. Louis CEO Brent Poulton, who served on the Shining Through Centre's Board of Directors until January 2009.

Two day conference with Dr. Mark Sundberg Ph.D, BCBA

Event Date: October 1st and 2nd, 2009

STC presented a two day conference with Dr. Mark Sundberg Ph.D, BCBA, renowned author, researcher and lecturer.
Title: Identifying the language and social needs of a child with Autism using the VB-MAPP and designing an individualized curriculum.

13th Annual Electronics Manufacturing Industry Golf Tournament

On July 8th the 10th Annual Swinging for Autism Golf Tournament took place at the beautiful Kleinburg Golf Club. Over 200 golfers, friends, and supporters participated in one of the Shining Through Centre’s primary fundraising events.

Shiningthrough and St. Louis Host First Annual Baseball Tournament

St. Louis Bar and Grill hosted its 1st Annual Charity Baseball Tournament. The proceeds from the tournament were donated to Shining Through Centre for Children with Autism.

Sieze the Night Poker Tournament

9th Annual "Swinging for Autism" Charity Golf Tournament

Many congratulations to our golf committee members Umberto, Dino, Arpiar and Joe for a very successful Swinging for Autism Golf Tournament this past July which netted over $28,000 for STC. We had a healthy increase in golfers, sponsors and net profit. Thank you to all of our volunteers, families, sponsors and golfers for a great day.

Autism Speaks Walk in Toronto

Many congratulations to May Liao and Team Shining Through who raised $5,200 on Sunday June 1st at the Autism Speaks Walk in Toronto. Twenty five Shining Through walkers participated including staff and families. Special kudos to top fundraisers Anna and Umberto Martini and Fred and Sue Lau. Way to go Team Shining Through.

9th Annual Fundraising Gala Dinner

“It Takes a Family...” Fundraising Gala in support of the Shining Through Centre was held Friday February 29th, 2008 at the Paramount Conference and Event Venue in Woodbridge, and is the premier event of the fundraising season. This year’s event featured a “Seize the Day” campaign that allowed supporters to sponsor a hour or a day of therapy at the Centre.

Swinging for Autism

On Wednesday July 11th 2007, Shining Through Centre held its 8th Annual Swinging for Autism golf tournament at the Kleinburg Golf and Country Club. Registration was $200 per golfer and included a full day of golfing, including cart rental, prizes, contest holes, as well as a wonderful dinner.
